For more than a decade, the I-HEAL program has worked to bring health education, screenings, and care navigation directly into schools and community spaces. At our 11th Annual Wellness Day in Cleveland, Mississippi, we continued that mission by serving pre-term, expecting, and postpartum mothers with resources designed to promote long-term health and stability.
Prioritizing Maternal Wellness
Expecting and new mothers were greeted with fresh fruits and vegetables, an essential foundation for nutrition and recovery. To further support their health journeys, each received a blood pressure cuff—a vital tool that allows women to monitor their health between provider visits and recognize early warning signs of hypertension, one of the leading causes of maternal mortality in Mississippi.
Throughout the day, mothers had the opportunity to speak with community health professionals, learn simple self-care strategies, and connect to ongoing care navigation services. These interactions fostered open dialogue and empowerment, encouraging every participant to take an active role in their own wellness.
Expanding Access to Maternal Dental Health
This year’s event also introduced a new focus area—maternal dental hygiene. Mothers received dental health kits containing toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, and mouthwash to promote consistent oral care at home.
Dental hygiene is an often-overlooked but critical part of maternal wellness. Poor oral health can increase systemic inflammation, which is linked to higher risks of developing or worsening gestational diabetes and other chronic health conditions. By prioritizing oral care, mothers can help prevent the onset of diabetes, improve cardiovascular health, and enhance overall well-being during and after pregnancy.
By equipping mothers with dental care essentials and education, the Glenn Family Foundation and its partners are helping to close the gap between dental health and chronic disease prevention—empowering women with the knowledge and tools to take control of their total health.
Meeting Families Where They Are
Our commitment to maternal health extended beyond education and screenings. Through a partnership with the Diaper Bank, families received diapers in various sizes, helping ease the burden of one of early parenthood’s most essential—and often overlooked—needs.
By combining nutritious food distribution, health monitoring tools, and basic infant essentials, the Glenn Family Foundation ensured that mothers left the event not only supported but also equipped to continue their care at home.
Community, Care, and Continuity
The success of this year’s I-HEAL Community Wellness Day is a reflection of months of preparation and collaboration among our dedicated staff, volunteers, partners, and sponsors. Together, we welcomed over 400 community members for a day centered on health, hope, and connection.
Every resource distributed, every conversation shared, and every screening completed was a step toward a healthier Delta—one where mothers have access to the knowledge, tools, and community support needed to thrive.
As we look ahead, the Glenn Family Foundation remains committed to expanding maternal health initiatives and continuing to meet families where they are. Because when mothers are supported, entire communities are strengthened.
