Founded in 2014, the Essie B. and William Earl Glenn Foundation for Better Living (also known as the Glenn Family Foundation or “GFF”) is a sibling-inspired, family-focused, and community-based nonprofit with a mission to create thriving communities for all—children, youth, and families. Although GFF casts a wide net, most of its work focuses on the Mississippi Delta to address adverse conditions plaguing rural, dispossessed Mississippi communities burdened by economic poverty, chronic disease, and premature death.  For more than 12 years, GFF has worked in communities with limited access to healthcare, jobs, and resources, implementing community-engaged research and innovative programming, education, professional development, and workforce development initiatives that deliver high value and high impact. GFF’s work is grounded in the lived community context: the same conditions that drive disparate health outcomes — underinvestment, limited access to credentialed pathways, and historic exclusion from professional networks — also constrain health and economic mobility. Our programming works to close both gaps simultaneously, building local human capital while strengthening the systems that serve Mississippi families.  Anchored in deep community trust, evaluated through rigorous methods, and stewarded with the fiscal and compliance discipline, GFF is a high-impact partner for donors, private funders, and public agencies investing in healthier, more economically resilient Mississippi communities.
